The outside and gardens look beautiful but there are not the restaurants or facilities mentiioned on their descriptions. 1 restaurant with food that takes 2 plus hours for them to make. It is never what you have ordered and when they say after 40 mins they dont have that and you place another order they bring you something different entirely even when you point to the menu then they ask you to write it down eg asked for pizza- they had no cheese then said chicken sandwhich after 1.5 hours egg ssndwhich with cold chips! You could get omlette each morning and they asked what you wanted and it never came out as asked. Showers leaked over the floor and leaked onto tile floors in public hallways always had to check the floors so dont slip over. TV didnt work and not always hot water. So even if you wanted a rest day to enjiy the so called resort you couldnt as access to food and drinks was next to impossible. The hot tub and sauna were supposed rennovations, air con didnt work in the gym. To leave the 'resort' it was $US60 for a driver to go eat food elsewhere. I asked to speak to management several times and got nowhere. Oh there is no efpos facility too though stated in site and on windows of the 'resort'. Avoid at all costs
The best Gym I found in an hotel (even a/c didn't work) . The room was enormous, clean and quiet. The Road for getting there Is in bad conditions, as the standard of the Island, excerpt main roads. Breakfast Is simple but good enaugh. Staff very helpful, a nearby beach Is very "authentic" with few europeans. Good experience.
Staff seem to do the best they can despite limitations, very picturesque in itself however was told to get cash to pay for food and expenses as their card machine was not working.
A safe refuge in a chaotic island
The stay was very lovely compared to the surrounding parts of Zanzibar. You sometimes forgot there was a world outside the resort. The staff was very respectful and helpful. Grisham in particular was very professional, reliable, well-spoken with English, and was able to meet all our requests (including having breakfast made earlier than normal for our flight) with a smile. The food was good, and BiBi's restaurant is a short drive away if you desire something else.
FOR UPPER MANAGEMENT:
The executive suite was extremely spacious, but the fridge didn't open or seem to be on for us. The whole toilet tips over if you lean to the left, and the bidet pressure is WAY too strong. The shower stall leaks water, and it would be nice to have an actual dinner table since the room has the space.
Lastly, give Grisham a PROMOTION! That man made our experience 10x better than it would've been without his help. If ever in Zanzibar again, i would stay here knowing I'd be in good hands!
My family and I were in Zanzibar over the December holidays with accommodation booked at ngalawa hotel and resort. I must say the place was breath taking from the entrance. Palm trees all around. It was family friendly which allowed for easy entertainment of kids, with I don't know how many swimming pools( yes they are that many????????). It is away from the chaos of the city but very close to a lot of activities and tourist sites. There is an in house travel guide who helps with tour booking and yes covid test booking. The staff was amazing always available. Restaurant also on site. I can write a book about this place. Go see it yourself ??
