Nice little cottage. Felt like it’s where a winemaker would kick their feet up at the end of the day, looking out on the mountains a sipping on a Pinot noir.
I suggest checking the accommodation website directly prior to booking. Things I was not made aware of when booking through ******* are that the grape vines have been removed (all except two rows) and use of the hot pools are open to the public and at an additional expense.
Pros
- Staff were lovely
- Cottage was large and very comfortable for a multiple day stay
- in room spa bath was lovely
- hot pools and wine were exceptional
- close to shops etc
Cons
- on a main road, not as secluded as pics make it out to be
- cottages are close together (not really private)
- hot pools cost additional (and not cheap) / no discount offered for guests
- cheese platter as part of hot pool package was packaged lunch snack form supermarket
- wine tasting is not discounted for guests
- subdivision works are happening and vines are gone so feel of venue is not what I expected / you are looking at a lot of dirt/fencing
This is made clear on website but unfortunetley ******* needs to update their accommodation details to reflect product better.
Jan and Graeme were great hosts. Unfortunately, we missed the wine tasting on the first night, however were pleasantly surprised when we attended our second night. Great discussions and selection of wines. The room was very cosy and secure with everything we needed and the BBQ was great for what we needed. Indulged in a spa on site and again were impressed by the property. Would definitely go back.
Okay, this place is just a gem! I really wish we had more time here! We stayed overnight at the hotel in a room that overlooked the winery, did the hot pools and did a wine tasting! I loveeee the owner, she is super funny and made our stay amazing! We sat out on the patio with a bottle of wine after the wine tasting and hot pools and just enjoyed being there. The hot pools were AWESOME!!!!! Seriously, BOOK this place for both a stay and hot pool!!!! We booked the larger hot pool and it was gorgeous out and just beautiful views and so relaxing after hiking for a week!
We decided to go try the wines and then made a quick decision to try the hot tubs. What a delightful experience all around. Graham gave us a lovely tasting ant then set up the hot tub for us. Clean, quiet, beautiful, comes with a great bottle of wine and snacks. Just go! You won’t regret it!
It was fabulous - extremely well equipped kitchen, private, quiet. The cottage had many extras that you usually do not find in a rental property. Has private yard, BBQ, jacuzzi tub, oven, full size frig, Nespresso, everything we wanted and more. Hosts are very nice and extremely helpful and accommodating. Excellent stay in everyway.
We stayed for two nights to ride the Lake Dunstan bike trail. So glad we chose River Rocks Estate. We were warmly greeted upon arrival by Graeme & Jan. We settled in, then made our way upstairs to the wine tasting. Loved the Chardy & the Pinot's. Then after working our legs for 45+ km's the following day, we were able to relax & recuperate in the hot tub with more tasty wine. Thanks so much Graeme & Jan for your hospitality. We highly recommend this as a place to stay when visiting Cromwell & surrounds.
The hot tub in the greenhouse was the perfect tempurature. Accompanied with beautiful pinot noir to enjoy as we soaked. Couldn't have asked for a more peaceful setting in the olive trees, it was a wonderful setting and seemed private. We will be back.
